Meet Bailey Rae

Bailey “Rae” Aaland has been working as a mosaic artist since 2007. She began working with mosaics as a teenager, using broken plates to create art and teaching herself the process through books. In 2008, Bailey worked as an apprentice artist under Sharra Frank through the program COMPAS/Artswork. In 2012, Bailey graduated from Luther College with a B.A. in Art and a concentration in Video Production. Bailey has created works for Bank of America in cohort with the Hennepin Theater Trust, Art Partners Group, and the Minnesota Orchestra, among others.

Bailey’s art is heavily influenced by the ways humans interpret and connect with the natural world. She is inspired by the challenge of adding movement to a flat, glossy medium. Her style relies on the technically difficult task of cutting glass into long, flowing pieces, and fully utilizing the unique colors and textures of each piece of glass.

Bailey currently lives and works in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she spends her time running on the shores of the Mississippi River, quoting 30 Rock, and taking pictures of cat, Oslo. She would love for you to contact her for a commission via
